A former University of Cincinnati volleyball player filed a lawsuit May 22 against head coach Molly Alvey, alleging she was forced off the team in retaliation for reporting abusive behavior to the UC administration.
The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Cincinnati. UC athletic department spokesman Ryan Koslen said Tuesday that he was not aware of the lawsuit. He also said the athletic department does not comment on legal matters.
The player, who is not named in the lawsuit and is referred to as “Jane Doe,” said her scholarship was not renewed after the 2019 season.
The suit states: “Plaintiff has been forced, without the benefit of an athletic scholarship, to enroll in another university to complete her undergraduate studies and continue playing volleyball, has lost earning capacity due to the delay and disruption in her education, and sustained severe and permanent psychological and physical injuries.”
