Tulane defensive back Tyler Judson has been dismissed from the team after he was arrested earlier in the week for allegedly punching a girl at a Waffle House.
The altercation occurred on Monday morning in Zachary, Louisiana. According to police chief David McDavid, Judson and the girl, a high school student, were involved in an argument about a conversation on Instagram. Multiple local outlets report the girl was sent to the hospital after sustaining multiple facial fractures from the punch and will likely need surgery. The girl’s mother said that her daughter did not know Judson.
Judson was arrested after officers interviewed several witnesses and determined that he allegedly punched the girl. He is facing a second-degree battery charge and was released on a $7,500 bond. Another juvenile was also arrested on battery charges related to the incident. Though initially suspended from the team, Tulane later confirmed that Judson had been dismissed.
“As additional information has now become available concerning his arrest earlier this week, Tulane football student-athlete Tyler Judson has been dismissed from the football program after initially being suspended following his arrest,” the athletic department said in a statement. “Tulane will continue to hold our student-athletes, coaches and staff to the highest of standards.”
Judson, who was going to be a redshirt freshman for the Green Wave in 2020, appeared in four games in 2019.
